Our Radiant Barriers Save Money On Monthly Utilities

Our Radiant Barriers Save Money On Monthly Utilities

Many business owners and commercial property owners are looking for ways to increase their bottom line while decreasing expenses. Non-fixed costs are way they can do this, and with the increase in heating expenses, along with the tax credits to those who improve the energy efficiency of their buildings, many business owners and commercial building owners are investigating their utility bills and wondering how to save on energy costs. As a contractor you can bring your knowledge and cost savings to the table when discussing renovations or improvements.

As you know, investing in building renovations and home improvements can actually yield cost saving results. One of the many ways you as a contractor can do this for your customers is to improve the existing insulation with a reflective radiant barrier from Service Partners.

Although radiant barrier technology is by no means new, radiant barriers are being used for the purpose of building insulation and are considered one of the newer methods for shielding the interior of a commercial building from both the heat of summer and the cold, frigid temperatures of winter.

As media attention and commercial business interests have increased in making more energy efficient and ecologically green investments, radiant barriers are quickly becoming one of the most economical ways to augment a buildings’ existing insulation. Unlike traditional fiberglass batting or loose fill insulation, which acts to slow the progression of heat transfer, you can set yourself apart from the everyday contractor by showing your potential clients these radiant barriers and their cost savings. These barriers will actually reflect the majority of any heat transfer taking place allowing the building interior to remain at a more comfortable temperature.

With less need for air & heat conditioning cycles it is clear to see how this will not only save your customers money in operating costs, but also minimize the wear and tear of the HVAC system. Be sure to contact us to learn more about our weatherization products.

Have You Changed Your Furnace Filter Recently?

Changing your furnace filter when necessary can not only improve the quality of air that you breathe, but can also help keep your furnace running properly. You will need to measure your old filter to know the proper size to replace it with. There are varying opinions on how often the filter should be changed, but most heat and air conditioning experts advise that you replace the old filter with a new one once a month.

If you don’t change the filter you should at least check it that often to see how dirty it is. If it appears dirty or clogged by pet hair, etc., you should change it as often as needed. This is also true for those who smoke inside. This will also depend on what type of filter your furnace uses and whether you buy an expensive one or a cheaper made version. The general rule of thumb is to buy filters that you can’t see through. If they are too thin they won’t filter the air properly, although purchasing one that is ultra-thick may block some of the air flow you need for your furnace to work properly. The right filter in your furnace can help prevent some health problems such as asthma attacks or allergy symptoms.

Physicians that care for people with these types of illnesses recommend using a higher efficiency pleated type of filter that will trap more of the allergens in the air. When tested, these types of furnace filters were shown to remove many of the pollutants and air allergens. They also help remove pet dander from the air which is a cause for many people’s allergy symptoms. All of our furnace filters are designed for washing and re-using. They are economical and can be easily cut to size required for your furnace. Contact us today should you need to replace your furnace filter or should you have questions about any other weatherization products.

New Year Conservation Resolutions

Keeping things simple” and “getting back to basics” are two ideals most people naturally gravitate to. And while some people are fans of new year’s resolutions, we thought we’d put together a list for 2011 on how to keep energy conserved with weatherization. While pretty straightforward, these easy tips are great way to save money and energy throughout the New Year.

  • Confirm that you have a programmable thermostat and set it to the optimal settings. Turning back the thermostat by 10°–15° when you’re not at home can save you around 10% a year on heating and cooling bills.
  • Check for air leaks and apply caulking and weather-stripping. While the improvements made in the last 12 months have likely been intact, be sure to double check to make sure you didn’t miss any leaks and see if any caulk or weather-stripping needs to be replaced.
  • See if the attic is properly insulated. Attics are often one of the easiest places in a house to insulate. Also one of the easiest places to lose energy.
  • Seal and insulate the foundation walls of unventilated crawl space and check for moisture and deterioration problems.
  • Landscape with water conservation in mind and triple check the sprinkler system schedule to minimize water usage.
  • Make sure to keep the hot water heater at 120°F and install a hot water heater insulating blanket. These two tips can save up to 15% in energy costs.
  • Ensure any appliances you purchase are ENERGY STAR rated, which use less energy, save money, and help protect the environment.
  • Kill phantom energy loads (aka “vampire power”) by unplugging appliances when not in use.

Keeping these simple tips in mind will help reduce your energy costs this year and save you more money to spend on more luxurious items than replacing everything in your home. If you have any questions regarding weatherization or how you can save more energy this year feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to help.
